Planning – Routing and Scheduling Optimisation
Paragon's routing and scheduling software solutions are used to plan and optimise a wide range of transport and service operations. The use of the software ranges from high level strategic planning and logistics modelling to daily dynamic planning and optimisation based on actual order volumes.

Operational Planning
Daily or weekly schedulingIn operations where order volumes vary significantly day by day, Paragon's routing and scheduling software is used on a daily or weekly basis to plan the most efficient vehicle routes and schedules based on actual order volumes. This helps maintain efficient practical transport schedules every day, minimising overall transport costs and improving customer service.

Paragon software can also be linked directly into the ordering process or delivery booking system in a home delivery or field service operation. Each new home delivery or service request is automatically optimised into the existing schedules, ensuring that the customer is only offered bookings that are both viable and efficient from a transport point of view. This raises customer service levels, improves delivery reliability and increases fleet productivity.

Tactical Planning
Planning fixed routesIn operations where demand patterns are less variable and fixed routes are operated, the software can be used periodically, typically once every 3-6 months, to update the fixed delivery routes and schedules to be operated over a period. This helps avoid the inherent inefficiency which is common in fixed route operations that evolve over time, but are rarely reviewed from scratch due to the enormity of the task.

For transport operations with regular distribution patterns, the Paragon software enables transport operators to manage the day-to-day variations in order quantities. The actual orders are downloaded into the fixed routes and the updated schedules are automatically checked in terms of feasibility and legality, and adjusted if necessary - either to overcome problems or further improve efficiency. This helps ensure that vehicles are not unintentionally overloaded, time windows are not missed, drivers are not unwittingly given illegal workloads and opportunities to tighten up the plan are not overlooked.

Strategic Planning
Strategic modelling & 3PL business developmentThe Paragon software is used widely as a strategic modelling tool by both 3rd party logistics operators tendering for new business and companies managing their own fleets. Users can evaluate alternative strategies and calculate transport resource requirements, for example involving fleet deployment, shift patterns, fleet mix or service levels, or plan for the introduction of new business or changes in industry legislation.
Paragon calculates routes and schedules for each strategic option, reporting the total time and distance incurred, vehicle utilisation, driver productivity, overall resource requirements (vehicles, tractors, trailers and drivers) and the overall cost. This enables different strategies to be checked for viability and compared objectively, so that well-founded policy decisions can be made.
