DBC Foodservice is installing advanced routing and scheduling optimisation software from Paragon Software Systems. DBC expects the software to enable customer service improvements, reduce operational costs by maximising the use of its assets, and lower the carbon footprint of its fleet of over 200 dual temperature controlled vehicles.
DBC delivers over 8,000 multi-temperature food products through a network of 14 depots across the UK to a wide range of customers, including contract customers such as the MOD, Caffè Nero, Prezzo, Selecta, Rail Gourmet and SSP.
Paragon will be used centrally to automate all delivery planning, remodelling and optimising of DBC's existing fixed delivery routes. The software takes into account weights and volumes of deliveries, road and delivery restrictions, mileage and other customer requirements. It will also enable the company to tender more competitively for new business by modelling accurate and efficient routes and schedules.
Paul Kelly, logistics planning development manager at DBC Foodservice, says: "Paragon is the market leader in routing and scheduling software and our customers will benefit considerably from our investment in the system. It is an off-the-shelf, Windows-based solution that provides reliable, accurate and rapid planning. It is very flexible, allowing multiple scenarios to be modelled quickly, a process that would normally take weeks and even months to complete manually. We'll use the software to streamline our operations and optimise the use of our drivers and fleet."
Chris Horne, managing director of DBC Foodservice, says: "Last month we took delivery of 30 new eco-friendly lorries which have been designed to cut harmful emissions by over a third. We have now installed Paragon software to our entire fleet which will reduce our carbon footprint even further by ensuring that the most efficient routes are used for every single delivery across our nationwide network."
