DHL Triumphs in reducing environmental impact with integrated tracking and planning

DHL Triumph reduces environmental impact with Paragon route optimisation and integrated vehicle trackingDHL Supply Chain has taken significant steps forward in reducing its carbon footprint and boosted customer service levels with the introduction of integrated planning and satellite vehicle tracking for its Triumph office furniture contract. DHL uses the real-time Fleet Controller solution from Paragon Software Systems which enables more efficient deliveries of thousands of items to numerous sales outlets and sites throughout the UK. In addition, the system provides enhanced levels of vehicle security and improves health and safety for DHL's drivers.

The Paragon Fleet Controller system takes live vehicle position information from Navman Wireless GPS tracking units fitted to Triumph's fleet of vehicles. This allows Triumph's DHL logistics team based at Triumph's manufacturing site in Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, to monitor actual vehicle activity against planned routes generated from its Paragon transport optimisation software. This gives a real view of the efficiency of daily deliveries and alerts the team to unusual activity.

The information gathered from the system enables DHL to continually evolve the efficiency of its delivery routes, cutting road miles and therefore significantly reducing vehicle emissions. The system also allows DHL to notify Triumph customers of any changes to delivery times, keeping them informed in real time.

"Paragon Fleet Controller allows us to manage our vehicle resources and drivers with greater efficiency. With integrated vehicle tracking we can see precisely how the daily plan is progressing which enables us to spot potential problems and deal with them quickly." says Steve Austin, Regional General Manager, DHL Supply Chain.

"This true picture of vehicle and driver activity ensures that we plan our routes and loads for maximum efficiency and this minimises road miles. The system also provides higher levels of security, because we are alerted to any unauthorised deviating from the planned route. We can also let customers know whether or not a delivery is running late or will arrive earlier than expected," he adds.

"The fact that Fleet Controller, complete with Navman Wireless vehicle tracking, is available from one trusted supplier, Paragon, made it an easy decision for us to introduce this technology to the Triumph operation," concludes Steve Austin.
